General Information

 Come to study Italian language and culture in the beautiful and relaxed seaside city of Trapani, in Sicily!  Scuola Virgilio proposes intensive classes in small groups enabling fast progression in an open and enjoyable atmosphere. Trapani is a rare combination of a historic Mediterranean town with spectacular beaches on a crystal-clear sea. It is an ideal location for your study holiday as the city is never too crowded with tourists and it is the perfect size to walk or cycle through.

Facilities

Staff: young, enthusiastic, multilingual. All teachers with appropriate training and diplomas and at least 5 years of relevant experience
Teaching approach: in our language classes we use elements of Italian/Sicilian culture as often as possible, to keep language learning as close as possible to real life
Additional activities: in addition to Italian classes in the morning we propose seminars, workshops, cooking classes, excursions, tastings, dinners, concerts, etc. to make the students' stay as rich and lively as possible
Location: pedestrian area in old town in small historic city, with all sea and land transportation means at short reach: beauty, comfort, convenience
Geography:Trapani is a human-size city, neither too big (Rome, Palermo, Milan...) nor too small (Taormina or all those mountain towns in central Italy). Trapani is a strip of land jutting out in the sea and is one of the few cities in Italy with both rock and sand beaches in its own perimeter. That is, if you want to have a swim you needn't drive 10kms to find a decent beach (Syracuse, Palermo, Pisa, Venice...).

The town of Trapani is located in an unmatched natural scenery: rising between the sea and a mountain, framed by the Egadi islands on the West, the saltpans on the South, Mount Erice on the East and a mild and fertile hill landscape all around.
Since ancient times up until the 18th century, this land has been a privileged site of encounter and exchange between Mediterranean and Western European populations. Many diverse elements that make our cultural heritage opulent and unique.
Besides its setting and its historical heritage, Trapani is a city on a human scale with ideal weather conditions, delicious food, a rich season of theatre and music shows, and, of course, a cristal-clear sea.

Discovering Trapani

Outside our classrooms there is a whole city to discover: this is why we propose to our students to follow us on our walks and visits in and outside Trapani. First of all, you will discover Trapani through its architecture, and particularly its many Churches. The Sanctuary of the Holy Virgin of Trapani and the nearby Museo Pepoli will deserve an entire visit for themselves. Another walk will take you to Trapani's ports and fishermen's neighborhoods, including a visit to Torre di Ligny's Sea Museum.

Nightlife

In the evening and at night, you just have to pick: local food and wine tasting, the dinners at the end of each cooking lesson, but also the theatrical performances, like in Segesta's ancient theatre, and concerts, especially open-air Opera by Luglio Musicale Trapanese. Trapani, San Vito, Favignana, to name but the most entertaining cities, have enough treats to light up your nights...

Excursions

Towns and beaches: We propose you to go out and visit the nicest resorts of the county of Trapani, like bustling Castelllammare del Golfo [picture], Scopello's lovely hamlet or San Vito Lo Capo [picture] and its white sand beach.
Where the Ancients dwelt: From beauty to beauty, we will take you to discover the three-thousand year old town of Erice [picture] and the imposing archaeological sites of Segesta [picture], Selinunte and Mozia.
A luxurious nature: With us you can take a relaxing walk through Erice's sprawling pine forests, along the salt-pans straight paths. For those who look for a challenging trek, we have the long and winding paths of natural reserves of Mount Cofano, Zingaro and the Egadi islands.

 Age Requirement

The minimum entry age for individuals is 16 but for groups we accept students aged fourteen and older.

Membership Fee

Membership at Associazione Virgilio is open to all persons of legal age whatever their nationality. Membership is compulsory only in order to enrol to Italian classes and to participate to excursions. Other activities are open to non-members. Members have substantial discounts on these activities.
MEMBERSHIP FEES INCLUDE: - Administrative charges, test evaluation;- Customised support to find the type of accommodation that best suits you;- Welcome pack with tourist information- Membership card that entitles you to discounts and other advantages in selected shops, bars and restaurants in Trapani.
TUITION FEES INCLUDE: - Two-week Italian course including teaching aids;- Attendance certificate;- One activity, for example a guided visit in the city of Trapani.
THEY DO NOT INCLUDE: - Food, accommodation, transportation costs, optional courses. These services must be paid separately.
Refund terms:
- Cancellation between 30 days and 1 day before course begins: you must pay 50% of tuition fees.
- Once the course begins, you must pay 100% of the tuition fees and will not be entitled to any discount, even if you do not attend the whole course or part of it for whatsoever reason.
Scuola Virgilio reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum number of students (see website) has not been reached. In this case, Scuola Virgilio commits to informing you as soon as possible.
